WOWSA (Women on the Water Sailing) hosted by the Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle is an opportunity for women to learn and build comradery among female sailors of all levels of experience. The main goal is to have fun and form friendships with those who have a shared love for being on the water.
We do recommend some basic sailing experience as this is not intended to be an official sailing course. However, coaches and other women crew will share their knowledge and you will develop your sailing skills. The biggest requirements are enthusiasm and non-marking shoes.
Typical things you will learn - parts of the boat, safety, getting the boat ready, getting sails up, SAILING, wind direction, and teamwork.
If you have a PFD (personal flotation device, i.e. life jacket) you are welcome to bring it, but the boats will have them available for use. Wear warm layers and be prepared for rain as the wind makes it colder on the water.
WOWSA takes place over three Fridays, May 5, 12, and 19th. You will meet at your assigned boat between 5:00 and 5:30 pm. After sailing, all participants and their coaches will meet at CYC for dinner and socializing (no-host bar).
Women of color, black or indigenous who may have financial constraints can receive a 50% discount. Please email shauna.walgren@gmail.com.
CYC would like to thank the owners for volunteering their boats and the coaches for volunteering their time.
