Women-Focused Events

The Corinthian Yacht Club (CYC) of Seattle actively supports our women members who are exploring, strengthening, and expanding their goals in sailing.

Women-focused activities include:

WOWSA - Women on the Water Sailing

WOWSA is a 3-week learning series that takes place over three Friday evenings in June. Members share their boats and time for women to experience sailing. This is a great way to end the week - on the water making new friends. You can choose to learn about racing techniques or have a more relaxed experience. Everyone returns to the Clubhouse for dinner and more friendship making. The participants have a variety of experiences - many sailors choose to bring their friends who have never sailed before on this event. The cost is generally $90 for CYC members and $150 for non-CYC members. Sign up for the event generally starts in March and fills up fast. WOWSA (Women on the Water Sailing) created by the Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle is an opportunity for women to learn and build comradery among female sailors of all levels of experience. The main goal is to have fun and form friendships with those who have a shared love for being on the water.

Coaches and other women crew will share their knowledge and help you develop your sailing skills. Please note these are all volunteers and WOWSA is not an official learn to sail class. The biggest requirements are enthusiasm!

Typical things you will learn - parts of the boat, safety, getting the boat ready, getting sails up, SAILING, wind direction, and teamwork.

WOWSA takes place on Fridays, May 3, 10 and 17.

Women of color, black or indigenous who may have financial constraints can receive a member discount. Please email shauna.walgren@gmail.com.
