The Corinthian Yacht Club (CYC) of Seattle actively supports our women members who are exploring, strengthening, and expanding their goals in sailing.
Women-focused activities include:
WOWSA - Women on the Water Sailing
WOWSA is a 3-week learning series that takes place over three Friday evenings in June. Members share their boats and time for women to experience sailing. This is a great way to end the week - on the water making new friends. You can choose to learn about racing techniques or have a more relaxed experience. Everyone returns to the Clubhouse for dinner and more friendship making. The participants have a variety of experiences - many sailors choose to bring their friends who have never sailed before on this event. The cost is generally $90 for CYC members and $150 for non-CYC members. Sign up for the event generally starts in March and fills up fast. To participate in with a boat or as new crew at WOWSA 2024, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
SSWiSS Socials – Every 3rd Thursday of the Month from Jan - April and Sept-Oct.
The Salish Sea Women in Sailing Sistership (SSWiSS) meet at CYC. The doors open at 6:00 pm with dinner and drinks. The guest speakers begin at 7:00 pm. SSWiSS members are the speakers or help find guest speaker and there is no fee to join the Facebook group. This event is free for CYC members and their guests. These social events are open to all (including men) who love sailing and are willing to help women on their sailing path.
SSWiSS Symposium - Biennial, late Spring or Summer.
Launched in 2021 during the pandemic, SSWiSS Symposium is a jam-packed 2-3 day event that brings women from a variety of organizations around the Salish Sea together to sail together, learn from each other, and share experiences. The first SSWiSS symposium was hosted by CYC via Zoom in 2021 and Team Sail Like a Girl (TSLAG) provided many of the guest speakers. We hope that this will be an in-person event at the next one planned for 2023 with both in-person sessions and on-the-water learning opportunities.
