CYC Seattle organizes weeknight racing from April through September and several large weekend regattas, totaling over 100 days of racing each year. Our racers come from all levels of experience:  first time racers, weeknight campaigners, world champions and Olympic sailors. We race on Lake Washington and Puget Sound with destination, overnight and buoy courses.

Race Fleet Captain: What's New in 2025

Hello CYC Sailors - Happy New Year and welcome to the 2025 season! I have a few quick announcements I wanted to share with you regarding the race calendar, which is attached to this email. 

Key Highlights
  • - Frigid Digit is kicking off the season on Jan 25-26: Register Now!
  • - Center Sound Series starts March 1st 
  •     -This year we will be starting the series with Three Tree Point race on 01MAR then ending with Blakely Rocks 22MAR. This change allows us to hopefully have enough wind for TTP, and then get boats back from Blakely Rock in     time for the awards party.
    •     -This is always a great event, and we are excited to see you all! Registration will open on 01FEB. 
  • - POD Regatta and PSSR
  •     - This year, we are making an adjustment to our Spring weekend regattas. 
    •     - We are bringing back the PNW One Design (POD) regatta March 29-30. This regatta is intended for one design keelboats including J/24s, J/70s, J/80s, Melges 24s, VXOnes, Star and other one design fleets of 5 or more            boats.
    • - PSSR weekend will be April 12-13. This weekend will have 2 courses. 
      •     - Dinghy fleets will sail this weekend on the South Course
      •     - ORC/PHRF/J105 fleets will sail on the North Course 
    •     - We are adjusting it up this year to allow dinghy sailors to sail the One Design keelboats and dinghies per the fleet's request. 
  • - Salish 200 is ON this year, June 20th (longest Friday of the year) mark your calendars, more details soon! 
  • - PNW ORC Doublehanded Series & Championship!
    •     - We are introducing a new class to our events and calendar: Doublehanded ORC.
    •     - The series scored races will include Center Sound Series, Wednesday Nights on the Sound and a Championship weekend in October.
    •     - ORC participants will be sent the NOR for more details separately. Exciting momentum in ORC! 
  • - Season Passes
    •     - 2025 passes go on sale Monday 1/20. If you purchased one in 2024, you will need to go online and buy a new pass for this year.
    •     - Reminder: The season pass includes ALL racing on the lake and sound and is about ~50% discount. Only available to CYC members. Not a member? Join today! Email me for more information. 
    •     - PS: I hear we may have some cool swag for the first group of folks to buy a pass!
  • - Mixed+ Division
    •     - CYC will be adding a Mixed+ division to all our weekend regattas this year
    •     - To be eligible for the Mixed+ division, the Crew shall consist of 4 or more persons and contain no more than two (2) males over 18 years of age
    •     - We will have an overall Mixed+ trophy for each event awarded across the regatta ,or, by division if 5 or more Mied+ entries exist
    •     - FUN NOTE: CYC will be the host club for the J/70 Mixed+ Nationals this Spring. This event is being put on during J/Fest, which is managed by the Race Week PNW organization. 
Lake Updates:
  • - Weeknight Racing Starts April 8th
    •     - We will make no changes to the night in which fleets will sail in 2025. Tuesday will remain the J/24s and Wednesday will be J70, Thistle and SJ24s.
    •     - We will offer a "PHRF" class on Tuesday nights for any boats that want an additional night of sailing on the lake. 
    •     - All boats are expected to volunteer for Race Committee/BBQ support on your "off" night. Details will be shared by your Fleet Captains for assignments. Please be considerate of your fellow sailors by showing up for your       assigned slot. This modest request ensures we continue to put on great racing on the lake!
  • - Weekend Regattas
    •     - Lake Spring and Lake Fall Regattas are both on the calendar this year. Join us for some great weekend sailing on the lake! 
    •     - Moonlight Lake Race: This event will be FREE again and is open to the entire Seattle sailing community (and it will actually happen on a full moon this time). Come join the fun!
