This class runs Monday through Friday from 9:00-3:00
This full day weeklong class for ages 12-18 expands on concepts learned previously in Optis, Vanguards 15s, or all other sailing boats. Sailing experience is required. Students will learn how to tack and gybe, use body weight to steer their boat, sail alone confidently, among other challenging skills. Sailors who are interested in joining our race team are highly encourage to take this class, especially those who are currently sailing optis. This class focuses on:
Rigging and derigging a Laser
Moving effectively and comfortably in a boat alone
Advanced sail trim using sail controls
Intro to racing
Explanations of the physics of lift and flow
All instruction possible will occur outdoors, and if indoor instruction occurs due to weather, social distancing will be practiced. Our CYC clubhouse offers two stories of open floor plans which are great during inclement weather. Vaccinations will not be required and we will continue to follow COVID protocols as directed by state and local health officials.
All our sail camps require your child to pass a simple safety check in the water for liability. This safety check is performed during the beginning of their session on Monday, and is a basic swim and capsize check, with a life jacket on. Please be aware that if your child cannot enter the water, they will be asked to not come back and we cannot offer a refund.
