Poulsbo/Liberty Bay Raft up – Weekend of April 14-15, 2018

Led by Chris  (907-242-4248) and Lauri (907-242-5548) Bushue.

    Our email is bushuecb@yahoo.com

Get ready to raft up and share some food and fun! Come join us for a weekend exploring the shops, microbreweries, restaurants, museums and walking trails in Poulsbo.

    1.      Currents through Agate Pass are outgoing until about 10:30 am on Saturday the 14th, so keep that in mind when planning your travel.

    2.      Look for the CYC burgee on S/V Eleanor, Chris and Lauri Bushue’s 44 ft. center cockpit Kelly Peterson (white with blue canvas enclosure) near the entrance to the Port of Poulsbo. This is the third marina on the right as you come into Liberty Bay.

    3.      For group communications, let’s use channel 72.  Bring extra fenders for rafting up.

    4.      Explore town, have lunch, and/or walk a park trail on Saturday afternoon.

    5.      Bring food for a raft up potluck at 6:00. Bring your own plates, utensils and beverages as well.

    6.      Dinghy into town as a group for ice cream and/or evening beverages or stay aboard for a game of Mexican train.

    7.      Breakfast is on your own on Sunday as the best transit time through Agate Pass is in the morning.

Check out the marine supply store in town, full of great second hand finds

    Discover some new walking trails:

Walk about 15 minutes north on Front Street (or along the boardwalk and trails of American Legion Park) to Poulsbo’s Fish Park on 288 NW Lindvig Way. Enjoy 1.5 miles of trails and viewing platforms along Liberty Bay Estuary and Dogfish Creek. Follow the trail under the bridge to Nelson Park and see the Martinson Cabin Museum, open on Saturdays from 10-5.

Enjoy the wooded trails of Myroeboe Wilderness Park off of 1040 NE Hostmark Street. Look for a sign that says Olympic Place 1. Walk through the parking area and look for an Urban Path sign, then a Wilderness Park Trailhead sign.  It’s a beautiful wooded trail by a stream that is a hidden gem.  You will come out by the fields of North Kitsap HS.

    Visit some small museums:

Poulsbo Maritime Museum on 19010 Front St, open daily 10-4

Heritage Museum on 200 Moe Street NE in Poulsbo City Hall, open Wed.-Sat. from 10-4

SEA Discovery Center on 18743 Front St NE, open 12-5 Sat. and Sun., Th. and F. 10-2

Local cemeteries for history buffs – The oldest historic gravestones are by the landmark Lutheran church on the hill above Front St. There is also a cemetery on Caldart Ave. that has the gravesite of the coauthor of the Dick and Jane books (for those of you of “a certain age” who learned to read with these!)
