On Saturday, May 12, the Northwest Interscholastic Sailing Association, the Sailing Foundation, and surrounding sailing clubs help put on regattas all over the Northwest including Canada and Portland. The regattas require a team of four students, an A team made of a helmsman and crew, and a B team, also made up of a helmsman and crew. The A team completes two races, and then the B team complete as two races. Both teams rotate two different boats throughout the regatta.
This is Ballard High School Race Team's first season. Since this was our first season creating the Ballard High School Race Team, we participated in the silver fleet. We learned a lot at every regatta where our team was competing against 15-20 other teams. In the last regatta of the season in Port Townsend, our team placed second. Erik Anderson helmed on the A team with Nate Walgren as crew and Catie Vandervort helmed on the B team with Seth Aldrich as crew.
