After School Beginner Opti Cohort 3

Due to an easing of COVID restrictions on recreation, and an increase in resources, we are pleased to be able to offer an after school hours beginner Opti class! We have also reduced the price to reflect the shorter amount of sessions occurring. 

This class offers an introductory experience with sailing, emphasizing fun and comfort on the water. Students who already know how to sail will be able to continue to develop their skills, while new sailors will learn the basics. The class will be conducted using the very stable Optimist sailboat, with students sailing in their own boats from the first day. Students will learn nautical terminology, introductory rigging, wind awareness, sail trim, capsizing, and steering among other fundamental skills over this 6 session class. We will also play games and allow students to interact with their peers while maintaining safety standards in COVID times. 

Students will be required to perform a capsize test the first day of class, wet suits or other appropriate foul weather sailing gear will be required during the month of October due to adverse conditions. 

We will NOT be providing PFDs (life jackets) to students. US Coast Guard Type III is recommended. 

This class is open to students between the ages of 8 and 12 and under 100lbs.
