We are trying out virtual sailing in CYC. Sailing and good times with friends. All from the comfort of your couch. All fleets welcome. All CYC members welcome. Friends of CYC welcome.
We use a Skype “Meet Now” group. The one to used on a given night will be announced via email to registered boats.
You register via the evening’s event page. Register as soon as possible and no later than 8:00 on race night. Pay particular attention to make sure your registered virtual boat name matches what you will be sailing with. Your boat name, your name and club affiliation will be shared as part of our results and and in the discussion thread for the night.
See posted events on CYC calendar. Starting in July 2020 regular racing is starting up and we will during the summer month restrict virtual sailing to one Sunday night per month. Past series: April, May and June 2020 we raced Tuesdays and some Wednesdays.
On your own time, go throught the “Sailing School” to learn how to play. Join various online races. Also feel free to host for each other and share practice races on the Skype channel. Also read Jared's excellent article (linked at bottom) with a bunch of good tricks.
Register. Around race time look for the chat link shared via email. Then tune into the Skype "Meet Now" chat where we can text and talk to each other and where you will get the private access code to join the race. Start the game and once in the game go to “Custom Race”. Click Join. Enter private access code that you'll find in the Skype "Meet Now" group.
Each night we run one event consisting of 5 to 7 races. We will have one discard when 5th race completes. We will use Appendix A.
Thank you to Lek and Mark for helping run races and run scoring. Thank you Shawn for organizing live streaming on Facebook. Finally thank you Melanie, Derek, Jen and Cindy for setting up CYC Virtual Racing web pages and scoring system. We can use more volunteers to for a few aspects including race hosting, scoring, help new sailors, etc.
Ping your friends in the Skype "Meet Now" chat.
