Spring and Summer Offerings
CYC is offering Opti and Vanguard instruction for the beginner through advanced junior sailor. We also offer a Mommy/Daddy+Me program (or older sibling, or aunt, or second cousin twice removed from your grandpa's sister's cousin) for any pair of sailors from the same household. Registration opens February 1.
email Annie for questions about the junior's program!
CYC hosts the Ballard High School race team as well as a summer team which participates in the Northwest Youth Racing Circuit. We compete against other programs in the Northwest region.
Friday Open Sailing
Every Friday from June to August, our popular Friday Open Sailing for Kids program lets children who have enrolled in a sailing camp or whose family are CYC members enjoy free time on the water in a less structured but safe and supportive manner.
Junior Sailing News
Why should your child’s sailing journey start at CYC?
Our Equipment – Our fleet of Optimist Pram sailing dinghies are designed specifically for youth sailing; forgiving for the beginner, while providing a platform to teach the subtleties to intermediate and advanced youth sailors. We also have small fleets of Vanguard 15s and Flying Juniors, double-handed boats which are sailing up to high levels around the country.
Our Location – Shilshole Bay is a perfect place for learning to sail. Summers are famous for bringing in light air conditions to the Sound that is perfect for beginners. Luckily, Shilshole’s local thermal winds during summer allow your child to have enough wind to sail.
Our Instructors and Coaches – All instructors are U.S. Sailing certified, CPR/First Aid trained, and have passed a WA State background check. Many have years of personal sailing and teaching experience and some are collegiate sailors.
Our Community – Your child’s sailing adventure does not stop after a few weeks of learn to sail. We are building a full youth sailing program that allows your child the opportunity to keep getting out on the water throughout the year. We focus on developing a family atmosphere where everyone is supportive of each other and new friends are found.
In the News - Junior sailing participation is increasing! CYC recently hosted the USODA Northwest Qualifiers. 49 sailors attended, some traveling from as far as Florida, trying to claim a spot in the 2019 USODA Team Trials.
