    It's here! The moment you all have been waiting for! REGISTRATION FOR SPRING RACE TEAM!!!!!!!!!

    Practices will be held every Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 4:00-7:30. On Wednesdays we will have a team workout from 2:45-3:30, followed by practice. Participants may come as early as 3:30 to begin rigging.  Be prepared for chilly Spring weather. Wetsuits or drysuits are strongly advised. Sailors dressed inappropriately for the weather conditions will not be allowed on the water. 

    Participation on our race team requires a membership with CYC Seattle. Please view and complete the membership application here, or fill it out in this registration form. You can choose to join as a month to month member for the months you are on race team. There is no initiation fee, and you may put Michael Dougherty and Geoff Pease as your sponsors. Email juniorsprogram@cycseattle.org for questions. You may still register while your application is being processed.

    The Opti Spring season is here! The Gold Fleet is for sailors who have raced for at least a season and are ready to sail competitively. Tryouts will be held the first week of practice to ensure that sailors have the prerequisite skills for the gold fleet team.

    Practice will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons starting at 4:00, ending by nautical twilight (~6:30).

    More information will be provided at Orientation.

    The Opti Green Fleet is also welcome to join in our weekly practice race nights.

    CYC is turning Fun Sail Fridays into the Sailfest community gathering at the Clubhouse for on the water and off the water activities! Join a casual race sponsored by Sloop Tavern Yacht and Seattle Sailing Clubs with free hot dogs and $1 PBR at the CYC clubhouse after 8 PM. 

    Register for the Casual racing at SAILFEST Friday Event on the Sloop Site. This is designed for new sailors / boat owners, cruisers and is free to all.

    CYC Bar is open from 6 PM and we will be grilling up the dogs every Friday to July 21 so come down and grab a bun & beverage to enjoy at the Clubhouse.

    The Juniors Program will have "Family Fun Sail" from June 30th through the end of summer, with opportunities for youth and parents to sail dinghies.

    Come to the Clubhouse June 9th to bid a fond farewell to Annie Sorensen! 

    For the past three years, Annie has led, cajoled and tacked her way through many a challenging front to provide the CYC with the most successful Junior program in the history of the Club! She wrassled both Lake and Sound sailing and regattas for ages 5 to 18 and on top of those labors of love, she managed to be the top female women's team boat in 2022 Hobie World Champs in Spain.

    Please drop by to sign the big goodbye card and wish Annie well in her next adventures overseas!

    This into to sailing class is perfect for children ages 7-12 who have little to no sailing experience. Sailors who want to control their own boat fit in right here. By the end of the half day week, students will be able to sail and rig their own boat, tie some awesome knots, and know basic sailing terminology. Great for returning and new sailors. This class focuses on:

    • Using games to learn and have a lot of FUN!
    • Setting up and taking apart a boat
    • Teamwork and building friendships
    • Being comfortable in, around, and on the water
    • How to tack, gybe, steer, and trim

    All instruction possible will occur outdoors, and if indoor instruction occurs due to weather, social distancing will be practiced. Our CYC clubhouse offers two stories of open floor plans which are great during inclement weather. Vaccinations will not be required and we will continue to follow COVID protocols as directed by state and local health officials.

    This full day weeklong class for ages 12-18 expands on concepts learned previously in Optis, Vanguards 15s, or all other sailing boats. Sailing experience is required. Students will learn how to tack and gybe, use body weight to steer their boat, sail alone confidently, among other challenging skills. Sailors who are interested in joining our race team are highly encourage to take this class, especially those who are currently sailing optis. This class focuses on:

    Rigging and derigging a Laser

    Moving effectively and comfortably in a boat alone

    Advanced sail trim using sail controls

    Intro to racing

    Explanations of the physics of lift and flow

    All instruction possible will occur outdoors, and if indoor instruction occurs due to weather, social distancing will be practiced. Our CYC clubhouse offers two stories of open floor plans which are great during inclement weather. Vaccinations will not be required and we will continue to follow COVID protocols as directed by state and local health officials.

    The guppies class is the best place for brand new sailors aged 6-8 and less than 100 lbs. This half day week long introduction to sailing can be participated in by students who are interested in the fundamentals of being on and around the water. Students often sail together with an instructor and junior instructor. Small class sizes and fun interactive activities help your little one feel safe and comfortable on the water. In this class, we focus on:

    • Using games to learn and have a lot of FUN!
    • The vocabulary of sailing
    • Being comfortable in, around, and on the water
    • How to be safe and smart around water
    • How wind and sails work together to make a boat move through the water
    • Basic knot tying

    All instruction possible will occur outdoors, and if indoor instruction occurs due to weather, social distancing will be practiced. Our CYC clubhouse offers two stories of open floor plans which are great during inclement weather.     This class runs Monday through Friday from 9:00-3:00

    This full day weeklong class for teens teaches cooperation, communication, and sailing knowledge to students in a doublehanded (2 person) boat. By the end of the week, students will be able to rig and sail a boat as both a crew and a skipper. Sailors should bring their own lunch. Great for returning and new sailors more than 100 pounds and between the ages of 12 and 18. Instructors will teach to whatever level students are at, and can make accommodations for more advanced students. This class focuses on:

    • Rigging and derigging a Vanguard 15
    • Teamwork and building friendships
    • Being comfortable in, around, and on the water
    • How to tack, gybe, steer, and trim in a double handed boat
    • Sailing terminology
    All instruction possible will occur outdoors, and if indoor instruction occurs due to weather, social distancing will be practiced.     This class runs Monday through Friday from 1:00-4:00.

    The guppies class is the best place for brand new sailors aged 6-8 and less than 100 lbs. This half day week long introduction to sailing can be participated in by students who are interested in the fundamentals of being on and around the water. Students often sail together with an instructor and junior instructor. Small class sizes and fun interactive activities help your little one feel safe and comfortable on the water. In this class, we focus on:

    • Using games to learn and have a lot of FUN!
    • The vocabulary of sailing
    • Being comfortable in, around, and on the water
    • How to be safe and smart around water
    • How wind and sails work together to make a boat move through the water
    • Basic knot tying

    This full day weeklong into to sailing class is perfect for children ages 8-12 who have little to no sailing experience. Sailors who want to control their own boat fit in right here. By the end of the full day week, students will be able to sail and rig their own boat, tie some awesome knots, and know basic sailing terminology. Great for returning and new sailors. This class focuses on:

    • Using games to learn and have a lot of FUN!
    • Setting up and taking apart a boat
    • Teamwork and building friendships
    • Being comfortable in, around, and on the water
    • How to tack, gybe, steer, and trim

    This class runs Monday through Friday from 9:00-3:00

    This full day weeklong class for teens teaches cooperation, communication, and sailing knowledge to students in a doublehanded (2 person) boat. By the end of the week, students will be able to rig and sail a boat as both a crew and a skipper. Sailors should bring their own lunch. Great for returning and new sailors more than 100 pounds and between the ages of 12 and 18. Instructors will teach to whatever level students are at, and can make accommodations for more advanced students. This class focuses on:

    • Rigging and derigging a Vanguard 15
    • Teamwork and building friendships
    • Being comfortable in, around, and on the water
    • How to tack, gybe, steer, and trim in a double handed boat
    • Sailing terminology

    This full day weeklong class for ages 12-18 expands on concepts learned previously in Optis, Vanguards 15s, or all other sailing boats. Sailing experience is required. Students will learn how to tack and gybe, use body weight to steer their boat, sail alone confidently, among other challenging skills. Sailors who are interested in joining our race team are highly encourage to take this class, especially those who are currently sailing optis. This class focuses on:

    Rigging and derigging a Laser

    Moving effectively and comfortably in a boat alone

    Advanced sail trim using sail controls

    Intro to racing

    Explanations of the physics of lift and flow
