Options for Ages 6-12

Beginner Opti 

2 times a week for three weeks, one time a week thereafter - starts Sept 7th

10 total sessions, 20 hours of instruction

This class offers an introductory experience with sailing, emphasizing fun and comfort on the water. The class will be conducted using the very stable Optimist sailboat, with students sailing in their own boats from the first day. Students will learn basic terminology, introductory rigging, wind awareness, sail trim, capsizing, and steering among other fundamental skills over this 10 session class. We will also play games and allow students to interact with their peers while maintaining safety standards in COVID times. 

$495 non member, $445 member

*no prior sailing experience necessary*

Beginner Opti Cohort 1

Options for Ages 13-18

Beginner Vanguard 

Once a week - starts Sept 9th

7 total sessions, 14 hours of instruction

This class offers an introductory experience with sailing, emphasizing fun and comfort on the water. The class will be conducted using a Vanguard 15, with students sailing with a partner. Due to COVID, they will sail with the same partner throughout the class. Students will learn basic terminology, introductory rigging, wind awareness, sail trim, capsizing, and steering among other fundamental skills over this 10 session class. We will also play games and allow students to interact with their peers while maintaining safety standards in COVID times. 

$295 non members, $245 member

*no prior sailing experience necessary, minimum 100lbs and 13 years of age*

Beginner Vanguard Cohort 1



Advanced Opti 

Once a week 

7 total sessions, 14 hours of instruction

Open only to students who have taken at least one session of sailing camp, either at CYC or another organization. This camp will focus on refining skills learned in beginning sailing and will allow sailors to experience racing, launching and docking, sailing upwind effectively, among other fundamental skills in this 7 session class. We will also play games and allow students to interact with their peers while maintaining safety standards in COVID times. 

$295 non member, $245 member

*at least one prior sail camp necessary or recommendation by an instructor*

Advanced Opti Cohort 1

Advanced Vanguard

Once a week

7 total sessions, 14 hours of instruction - starts Sept 11th

This advanced vanguard class delves deeper into sailing and introduces students to more advanced sailing concepts, wind theory, the physics of sailing, and racing. The class will be conducted using a Vanguard 15, with students sailing with a partner. Due to COVID, they will sail with the same partner throughout the class.

$295 non member, $245 member

*at least one prior sail camp necessary or recommendation by an instructor, minimum 100lbs and 13 years of age*

Advanced Vanguard Cohort 1




Mommy/Daddy & Me

Once a week

7 total sessions, 14 hours of instruction

Have you ever wanted to participate in sail camp because your kid has had so much fun? Now is your chance! We are excited to be able to offer this immersive and unique experience for you and your child, both sailing on a Vanguard 15. No experience necessary for either you or your child. 

$495 non members, $445 members

Mommy/Daddy + Me Cohort 3








STEM Sailing - postponed until Spring

Once a week for the first four weeks, twice a week for the last three

10 total sessions, 20 hours of instruction

Through US Sailing’s REACH initiative, we are excited to offer this 10 session Middle School STEM programing! Utilizing sailing as a learning platform, we aim to challenge students in science, technology, engineering, and math and provide real world examples of theories.

$495 non members, $445 members

*intermediate sailors only, minimum 100lbs and 13 years of age*






Race Team

Twice a week

14 total sessions, 35 hours of instruction

Open only to students recommended to the team by an instructor. This class focuses on the fundamentals of racing, focusing on upwind sailing, mark roundings, wind awareness, rules of the road, starting, and basic tactics and strategy. Students will have the opportunity to participate in scrimmages with sailors from other yacht clubs during some weekends while practicing COVID safety standards. 

$225 non members, $175 members

*open only by recommendation from the Director*

 Race Team

Twice a week

14 total sessions, 35 hours of instruction

Open only to students recommended to the team by an instructor. This class focuses on the fundamentals of racing, focusing on upwind sailing, mark roundings, wind awareness, rules of the road, starting, and basic tactics and strategy. Sailors will sail with the same partner in an FJ for the duration of . Students will have the opportunity to participate in scrimmages with sailors from other yacht clubs during some weekends while practicing COVID safety standards. 

$225 non members, $175 members

Senior Race Team

Students who are interested in participating in our Senior Varsity Race Team should fill out the following survey:

Fall Senior Race Team Survey

Access is granted to the survey only to those students who have been on the team for at least one year at CYC and have been recommended by Annie Sorensen, Eric Sanderson, Cindy Barrett, or Shelagh Hansen. 

Practices take place on Wednesday and Friday at Shilshole Marina. 

As well as weekly coached practices, students can look forward to socially distanced scrimmages with other clubs, the possibility of keelboat match racing, specialty clinics, guest speakers, and more.
