August 9, 2008 from 1000 to 1400
SEATTLE - Free sailboat rides, a marine swap-meet and "green boating" education are all part of the National Marina Day celebration at Port of Seattle's Shilshole Bay Marina. On August 9th, boaters and non-boaters alike are welcome at this free community celebration. The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on the Central Plaza at Shilshole Bay Marina.
Highlights include free sailboat rides (courtesy of the Seattle Sailing Club) and a marine swap-meet sponsored by the Shilshole Bay Marina Live Aboard community. The event also includes fun kid's activities, live music, "green boating" tips, free US Coast Guard Vessel Safety inspections and food concessions.
The National Marina Day celebration showcases marinas as family-friendly gateways to boating as well as stewards of the environment. John Thorburn, Communications Director at the Northwest Marine Trade Association explains, "Marinas are strong, vibrant communities of families and friends united by a shared passion for the water. Now, more than ever, Americans need clean, safe, relaxing locations where they can spend their leisure time. We're excited to promote and celebrate National Marina Day."
